FALCONS WIN OFFENSIVE SLUGFEST
Fresno Snaps Five-game Losing Streak to Bakersfield with 7-5 Victory
FRESNO, Calif. - David Haas led the way with two goals and Rob
Bonneau
notched a goal, including the game-winner, and three assists as the Fresno
Falcons defeated the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, 7-5, at Selland Arena.
It did not take long for the Falcons to establish the lead when
Jordan
Landry beat Condors back-up goaltender Beau Fritz just 18 seconds into the
game. Cory Murphy tied a career high with his 16th tally of the season at
5:15 of the first before Bakersfield's Jeff Goldie scored a power play goal
at 13:09 to cut Fresno's lead to 2-1 after one period of play.
The Falcons scored two goals 1:02 apart mid-way through the
second off the
sticks of Glen Gulutzan and Haas to open up a 4-1 advantage at 9:57. It
took just six seconds for Jason Ralph to make it a two-goal game again as
the clubs traded single goals for the remainder of the contest with the
visitors never getting closer than two. Haas recorded his second two-goal
game as a Falcon at 15:31 only to be answered by the Condors' J.J. Wrobel at
19:48, and Fresno led 5-3 heading to the third.
Each team scored twice in the final period. Rob Bonneau picked
up the
eventual game-winner at 1:20 as Drew Schoneck also added a third period
tally for the Falcons, and Wrobel and Ralph found the back of the net for
their second goals each of the game for Bakersfield.
The victory was only Fresno's second in regulation against Bakersfield
this
year in their 16-game season series and snapped a five-game losing streak to
the Condors. The Falcons finish the season series with a mark of 3-12-1 and
now own an overall record of 33-28-8 with 74 points.
Fresno completes their regular season home schedule tomorrow
night in a
preview of their first round Taylor Cup Playoff match-up with the Idaho
Steelheads. The Falcons and Steelheads face-off at 7 p.m. at Selland Arena
with the defending champions wearing vintage green and gold sweaters to
commemorate the final regular season game at Selland before the club moves
to the Save Mart Center for the 2003-2004 season. The jerseys will then be
auctioned off after the game with a portion of the proceeds to benefit
Make-a-Wish Foundation.
