FALCONS' WINLESS STREAK GROWS TO SEVEN
Fresno Loses to Idaho, 2-1
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons continue to suffer through
their longest
winless streak of the season after falling to the Idaho Steelheads on
Sunday, 2-1, at Selland Arena.
Fresno struck first to gain the early lead. Jason Weaver and
Jordan Landry
were thwarted on a two-on-one by Idaho goaltender Blair Allison, but Landry
kept working on the play, eventually jamming the puck and Allison back over
the goal line for his seventh of the year at 14:18 of the first.
The Falcons still led 1-0 until late in the second when Derrick
Atkinson fed
Ben Keup, who beat Fresno goaltender Terry Friesen upstairs at 16:54. Idaho
then began the third with the man advantage and made the Falcons pay. Dan
Shermerhorn found Derek Paget in front with Fresno's Scott Borders
blanketing him. Paget still managed to get his stick on the puck, though,
and swept it by Friesen at 1:42 of the final frame for the game-winner.
Fresno's winless streak dates back two weeks to their last victory,
a 5-2
triumph over the Steelheads in Idaho on March 2. The Falcons' record is now
30-26-8 with 68 points.
Fresno continues a five-game home stand next Friday and Saturday
at 7:30
p.m. each night against the Anchorage Aces and San Diego Gulls,
respectively. Tickets are still available at the Selland Arena box office,
all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
