FALCONS ROCKED BY STEELHEADS
Fresno Allows Season-High Six Goals in Shutout Loss
BOISE, Idaho. - The Fresno Falcons
sure had a lot more fun the last time
they went to Boise. In their first trip back to Boise since hoisting
the
Taylor Cup last May, the Idaho Steelheads played the part of the
rude host,
blanking the defending champions 6-0 at the Bank of American Centre
Friday
night. The Falcons had won the previous three meetings of the
season series.
Idaho jumped out to a 1-0 lead
in the first 1:15 of the contest and never
looked back. They added two more goals in the opening period to
take a 3-0
lead into the second period of play. Things didn't get any better
for the
Falcons, as the Steelheads tacked on one more goal in the second
period and
two more in third period to hand the Falcons their worst defeat
of the
season. Marty Flichel led all the Steelheads with two goals as
10 Idaho
players recorded at least one point.
The Falcons were only able to
muster a mere 18 shots on goal in the game,
their lowest output of the season. Terry Friesen made 31 saves
in net for
Fresno.
The loss drops the Falcons record
back down to .500 at 7-7-1 with 15 points.
They remain tied for third place in the WCHL standings with the
idle San
Diego Gulls. The loss also dropped heir road record to 1-3, a
mark they look
to improve on as 13 of their next 17 games are away from the friendly
confines of Selland Arena
The team will continue their two-game
set with the Steelheads tomorrow night
at the Bank of America Centre with a 6:05 p.m. face off. Saturday's
game
can be heard live on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at
5:50 p.m. with
the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-Game Show. The Falcons will return home
on Friday,
Dec. 7, to take on the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 7:30 p.m. The game
will be the
team's 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Toss and the first 5,000 fans will
receive a
free team photo, courtesy of Baja Fresh and ValPrint. Tickets
are available
at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets or by
