CONDORS SHUT DOWN FALCONS
Fresno Drops Fifth Straight Game to Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Fresno
Falcons continue to be dominated by the
Bakersfield Condors. Having already dropped four straight games
to their
southern rival, the Falcons made it five in a row to the Condors,
falling
4-1 Friday night at Centennial Garden in Bakersfield. Iain Fraser
netted the
lone goal for the Falcons, who have now lost four of their last
five games.
Bakersfield wasted no time putting
numbers up on the scoreboard, hanging a
pair of goals on the scoreboard in the first period for an early
2-0 lead.
The Condors made it 3-0 in the opening minute of the second period
before
Fraser finally put the Falcons on the board with his shorthanded
goal at the
3:57 mark of the period. Jason Ralph gave the Condors back their
three-goal
lead, with his goal midway through the period, which closed out
the scoring.
Falcons goaltender Mark Gowan,
making his third start of the season, stopped
19 of the 23 shots he faced. Fresno's special teams, which had
been the club
's strong point over the past couple of games, faltered a bit,
allowing
Bakersfield a pair of power play goals while going scoreless in
their seven
chances.
For the moment, Fresno drops to
third place in the WCHL standings, with a
record of 6-6-0 and 12 points. They could fall as far as tie for
fourth
place, pending the results of the rest of the games in the league.
The Falcons will now return home
tomorrow night and look for some redemption
against the Condors when the two teams square off at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday
night's game is nearly sold out, as there are only a few scattered
seats
still available for the contest. The first 5,000 fans at Saturday
night's
game will receive a free pair of ThunderStix, courtesy of Pelco.
Fans are
also encouraged to bring a new or used coat to be donated to Coats
for Kids.
Anyone who donates a coat will receive a free voucher for a ticket
to a
future Falcons game. Tickets for the Falcons game on Tuesday,
Nov. 19,
against the San Diego Gulls are still available at the Selland
Arena box
office, all Ticketmaster locations, or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com.
