FALCONS KNOCK OFF STEELHEADS
Fresno Takes Second Straight Game from Idaho

FRESNO, Calif. - For the fourth consecutive game, the Fresno Falcons and
Idaho Steelheads skated to a one-goal game. And for the fourth consecutive
time, the Falcons came out on top, this time prevailing 3-2 over the
Steelheads for their second win in as many nights over their northern foe.
Terry Friesen was once again solid between the pipes for the Falcons as he
made 27 saves while three different Falcons chipped in goals.

Scott Borders put the Falcons on the board first with his shorthanded goal
less than five minutes into game. With the puck near the red line, Borders
scooped up the puck and raced up the ice toward the Steelheads cage where he
ripped a shot at Idaho netminder Jason Cugnet. After Cugnet denied the
initial shot, Borders put in the rebound for his first goal of the season.

Fresno took their one-goal lead into the second period, but it wouldn't last
long. Idaho's Cory Morgan tied the game at one with his second goal of the
season less than four minutes into the period. The Falcons reclaimed their
lead just over nine minutes later when rookie Colin Embley netted his first
goal in a Falcons sweater when he took a feed from fellow rookie Jordan
Landry and it fired past Cugnet for the goal. For both Embley and Landry,
the goal marked their first points as professionals.

Joe Frederick gave the Falcons a two-goal lead in the opening minute of the
third period when he riffled a shot past Cugnet for his first tally of the
season. Idaho made things interesting two and half minutes when Jarret
Atkinson put the puck past Friesen to cut the Falcons lead back down to a
single goal. The Steelheads continued to pepper Friesen with shots, but he
stood his ground throughout, as the Falcons held on for their second
consecutive victory.

The win moves the Falcons record to 2-1-0 with four points on the young
season, vaulting them into a tie for second place in the West Coast Hockey
League standings with the idle San Diego Gulls. Both teams now trail the
Steelheads for top billing in the standings by one point.

Fresno will now welcome the Anchorage Aces to Selland Arena for the first
time this season, tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. as the Falcons wrap up their
Opening Weekend Extravaganza. Sunday's game is the first Family Day of the
2002-03 season, sponsored by CentralValley.com, KFSN ABC 30 and Soft Rock
