FALCONS OUTLAST ACES, 3-2
Fresno Wins Third Straight, Pulls within Two Points of Second

ANCHORAGE - Defenseman Cory Murphy blasted a slapshot by Anchorage Aces
netminder Ryan Person with 6:05 to play on Friday night for the game-winner
as the Fresno Falcons won their sixth straight from the Aces, 3-2, at
Sullivan Arena.

Fresno's Kirk DeWaele led off the scoring with his fourth of the year with
another slapshot that beat Person at 12:56 of the first period. The Aces'
Jason Boily tied the game less than two minutes later off a deflection for
his first goal as a pro, and the teams ended the first tied at one.

That would be the score heading to the third after a scoreless and very
chippy second period that saw the Falcons lose Jason McBain to injury and
Brad Both to a game misconduct.

In the third, Jordan Landry would win the puck out of the corner with the
help of Fresno captain Jason Weaver and find Colin Embley out front for his
12th of the season at 5:52. After killing off a five-minute Anchorage power
play that resulted in the ejection of Fresno's Mike Barrie for spearing,
Fresno would again face a short-handed situation. This time Anchorage
converted as Yvan Corbin took a cross-ice feed from B.J. Young for the
equalizer at 13:16. The Falcons responded quickly, just 39 seconds later,
when Murphy hammered home his seventh of the season for the game-winner.

Fresno finished the game with just 11 skaters but upped their record to
21-13-5 and 47 points, two points behind the San Diego Gulls and Bakersfield
Condors, who are tied in second place.

The Falcons and Aces finish a three-game set tomorrow night before Fresno
returns home for three in a row against the Long Beach Ice Dogs beginning
next Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. Live play-by-play action from tomorrow
night's contest can be heard live on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat. The Mail
