FALCONS' STREAK COMES TO SCREECHING
HALT
Club Shutout by Steelheads, 5-0
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons
suffered a 5-0 shutout at the hands of
the Idaho Steelheads on Friday in front of a crowd of 5,366 at
Selland
Arena. The loss snapped the team's season-high six-game win streak.
Fresno was kept in the game early
after several top-notch saves by
goaltender Terry Friesen, who was finally beaten at 6:55 of the
first off a
rebound by Joe Rybar. Idaho would add to their lead when Derek
Paget fed
Dampy Brar in the slot at 13:50 to take a 2-0 lead into the second
period.
The teams played a scoreless second
period during which each club registered
seven shots on goal. Any chance the Falcons had of capturing
their seventh
straight victory vanished in a matter of five and a half minutes
of the
final period. Cory Morgan wristed home his 16th of the season
at 5:26
followed by goals from A.J. Begg at 9:44 and Marty Flichel at
10:59 for the
final 5-0 margin.
The loss drops Fresno three points
behind the Bakersfield Condors in the
race for third place in the league, after Bakersfield defeated
the Long
Beach Ice Dogs tonight, 5-1. The Falcons are now 18-13-4 on the
year with
40 points, 12 points ahead of the fifth-place Ice Dogs.
The same two teams match-up again
tomorrow night at Selland beginning at
7:30 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Falcons sports
bag.
This current five-game home stand then draws to a close on Sunday
at 5 p.m.
with the arrival of Long Beach.
