FALCONS FINALLY DEFEAT CONDORS
Friesen Makes 46 Saves in 3-1 Win
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Despite
getting out-shot, 47-23, the Fresno Falcons
exploded for three goals in the first five minutes of the third period on
Friday to defeat the Bakersfield Condors, 3-1, in front of a crowd of 5,520
at Centennial Garden.
Bakersfield opened the scoring
3:50 into the game just after a Falcons
penalty expired when a shot by Jonathan Sorg deflected off a body and by
Falcons goaltender Terry Friesen. The rest of the period was characterized
by chippy play on both sides as the teams combined for 54 penalty minutes.
At one point in the second Fresno
was getting out-shot 17-2 for the period
and 20-9 for the entire frame, but the Condors could not beat Friesen again
and the Falcons were still within a goal, 1-0, as the teams headed to the

Glen Gulutzan wristed home his third of the
year with Fresno on a power play, and Jason Weaver followed with his eighth
of the year at :58 off a rebound. Fresno would add to their sudden lead
when Alex Todd combined with Cory Murphy off a two-on-zero for his first
goal of the season at 4:45. Friesen continued to shine and ended the
evening with a season-high 46 saves to lead his club to the 3-1 win.
The victory was the Falcons' first
of the year against Bakersfield in
regulation after 10 tries and their third straight overall. It upped their
record to 15-12-4 and 34 points, three behind the Condors and third place in
the league with two games in hand.
The Falcons play the final game
of a six-game road trip tomorrow night at
Long Beach before returning home on Sunday to host the Anchorage Aces at 5
p.m. Sunday's game features between-periods entertainment provided by the
Zooperstars and posters commemorating Freddie the Falcon's birthday
celebration to the first 1,000 fans. Tickets are still available at the
