BORDERS’ HAT TRICK TRUMPS WILLIAMS’ RETURN
Fresno completes a two game sweep

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Scott Borders registered a hat trick as the Fresno Falcons broke open a 1-1 game after the first period and cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Anchorage Aces in front of 1,993 Wednesday night at Sullivan Arena.

The two teams swapped power play goals in the opening 20 minutes, with each club taking advantage of a five-on-three situation. Jason Weaver scored his third goal of the series at 7:22 to give Fresno the early lead, and B.J. Young responded in kind at 16:38 with his second goal in as many nights after missing a month due to injury. The Falcons took the lead for good as Borders scored his first of then night at 3:33 of the second period. Another goal by Borders eight minutes later extended the Fresno bulge to 3-1.

The turning point came immediately after Wes Dorey had trimmed the gap to 3-2 with 4:57 left in the second period on a redirection of a Tim Donnelly shot. A costly turnover by Anchorage deep in its own zone led to Tyler Prosofsky banging home a rebound and the Falcons built the lead back to two goals just 12 seconds after Dorey had seemingly given the Aces momentum.

Fresno turned out the lights with a goal by Porter just 3:22 into the final period and a shorthanded tally by Ryan Duthie five minutes later that extended the margin to 6-2. Kimbi Daniels scored Anchorage’s third power play goal of the night with 5:12 remaining, assisted by Dorey and Paul Williams. Borders completed his hat trick on a Fresno power play with 2:20 left in the game to cap the scoring.

The Falcons (14-12-4) now lead the Aces by 10 points in the WCHL. Fresno will continue it's road trip Friday night against the Bakersfield Condors who they trail by only 5 points with two games in hand. Fresno will complete the road trip with a Saturday evening tilt against the slumping Long Beach Ice Dogs before returning to Selland Arena on Sunday for a 5:00 matinee bout against the visiting Anchorage Aces.
