Mike Self Blog Entry
02/19/2008 5:52 PM - Fresno Falcons
Hey there Falcons Fans, I know the one question on every ones mind walking in to the SMC these days is where has Self been? LoL Well I have been here Blogging! It's my turn to give all you fans the inside scoop on whats new with the Falcons on and off the ice, and much like the Bloggers before me I have done a little research reading up on my fellow team mates blogs. So at this point I believe I need to give you my nick names. Well the most obvious and what most of the boys would call me by BEFORE Christmas was Selfer, but after spending a week in Vegas with Curty, Johnny Drama is my newly acquired nick name. Apparently one of Curty's Christmas presents was the 1st two seasons of Entourage and seems to think there is a resemblance there, and most of the boys agree.
I believe when Coux left off we were just ready to jump on a plane and head to Vegas for 6 days. Wait we are going to Vegas for 6 days, and we only have 3 games? That road trip must have been planned for the single guys. Thank You Tito and Mouge. Well as all you die hard Falcons fans know we were able to come home with 6 points, and most of the money that we arrived with. Unfortunately I don't have any crazy stories of celebrity hook ups or guys waking up in the morning with wedding rings on. But we defiantly enjoyed ourselves while we were there, oh ya and did I mention that we came home with 6 points.
So after Christmas break we take a couple studder steps and drop 2 games, but that doesn't last long, the boys get on a roll winning 7 out of 10 games. Now that all the extra servings of Christmas turkey is out of the system, its time for another break. A group of us who were not asked to play in Stockton during the all-star break decided to rent a couple of cars and head down to LA, check out Universal Studio's, and rub elbows with the Stars. So after we make the long trek down to Hollywood Blvd, get checked into our hotel we decide to head down to Le Deux, the local hot spot for all the A listers. We arrive, nice and early to avoid and lines, and the boys were looking good too might I add, we could have stopped traffic on the 401 if we had too (that will only make sense to the Ontario boys). It doesn't take long for us to realize that the only way they were going to let us in there is if we pooled all our paychecks together and maybe, just maybe they might let one of us in. Hollywood 1, Falcons Zero. They clearly didn't want us in there, we were looking just too damn good. You might think that this would be a devastating blow to our big plans for our all-star break, not even close. The next day we headed to Universal Studios, Odie was able to meet Jay Leno and and interview of Jay Walking with him, we are still waiting to see if it will be aired. After a full day at Universal the boys split up. A few of the guys were able to score some green room passes to a filming of the Criag Kilborn show, and the rest of the boys drove down to Anaheim and watch the Ducks play Detroit. Later we all met up at Hermosa Beach for a night out on the piers. So All-Star break is over, we barley make it back to Fresno in time for late afternoon practice because of a snow storm that close all highways through the mountains, wait did I just say that, snow storm in California, someone must be playing a joke on us. Anyways back to reality, all-star break was a success. Final score for the road trip was Fresno Falcons 5, LA 1.
Well its time to sign off and I still haven't answered the question that everyone wants to know, where have I been because I certainly haven't been on the ice lately. Well I think it may have already leaked out to the media, but for those of you who don't know I recently had shoulder surgery and am on the long road to recovery right now. So there now that you know that all your questions have been answered and you are up to date on what going on with the members of your Favorite hockey team the Fresno Falcons.
Johny Drama Signing off, Stay classy Fresno California.
Daryl Marcoux Blog Entry
01/02/2008 3:02 PM - Fresno Falcons
Happy New Year Falcon Nation! It’s your boy #24 Daryl Marcoux, a.k.a. Coo-Coo or Coux (actually pronounce the ‘x’ on this one) as I have come to be known. I guess it’s time for me to take my shot at the old player blog.
Doing a little research, I see that Rammer left you guys as we had just won our fifth consecutive game. This streak then continued to seven games, beating Bakersfield and
Victoria
, before it was unfortunately snapped by those same Salmon Kings. Then it was off to
Utah
for a pair of games, which we ended up splitting. In the first game Utah came out hard, finishing all of their hits and using an aggressive forecheck to take the first game 5-2. However, we bounced right back the following night, scoring six goals in a 6-1 victory which led us into the Christmas break.
I was lucky enough to be able to go home for five days or so over Christmas, but from the sounds of things I missed out on a ton of fun back here in
Fresno
. About ten guys stayed behind over the break and the stories are nothing short of legendary. Leaving most of the juicy stuff out unfortunately, the boys ended up doing a secret Santa gift exchange and even filled stockings for each other while sipping on some eggnog. There was also talk of an incredible fondue party and a great Christmas night potluck dinner.
It was great to get back to
Fresno
after the break, where the weather wasn’t -25 °C like back home. We got right back into things with a game in
Stockton
on the 27th, which unfortunately did not go our way. Both teams were a little rusty from the time off, but
Stockton
was able to come away with a 2-0 win. Then we returned home for a pair of games against
Victoria
. The first game again didn’t go our way, as we lost a tight one 4-3, but we bounced back the very next night with a spirited 5-3 victory.
Alright Falcon Nation, it’s time for me to get going, I need to pack for our trip to Vegas. Hope enjoyed this installment of the player blog and I wish everyone success and prosperity in the New Year.

Mike Ramsay Blog Entry
12/10/2007 9:07 PM - Fresno Falcons
Hey Falcons’ fans, this is Mike Ramsay known as Rammer, Ramathorn, and or Car Ramrod by the fellows of the dirty bird squad. I will be bringing you up to date with the past two weekends. Our 3 games against arch rival Bakersfield Condors and our fun filled trip to
Boise Idaho
. The first game of the weekend didn’t go the way we would have liked, losing to the condors 8-1 on home ice in front of our loyal fans. We all knew that we had to go into their arena the next night and show them that we are a lot better team then what they faced in
Fresno
. We came out hard the next two nights, both games needed extra time and the falcons prevailed in a shootout at the Rabobank Arena and in overtime on the Sunday afternoon game back at the
Save
Mart
Center
. The weekend that didn’t look so good at the beginning turned out to be 4 point grab.
The boys were feeling good and ready to take the autobus as P.O. Beaulieu would call it to San Jose for Flight 2403 to
Boise Idaho
. Before departure, some of the boys came up with a great idea and created the “geek squad” by purchasing some Play Station portables for the trip. Medal of Honor was the featured game and it was an every man for them self combat. Kenny Bernard looked to be the all time champion with his quick and smooth controls, but Brady Leisenring’s after hours practice looked to pay off as his sniping abilities improved drastically. We arrived in
Boise
on Tuesday night after a 2 hour flight. We knew it was going to be a tough road trip playing the steelheads in their building with a boisterous crowd and a home record of 6-1-3-1. We came out hard taking a 3-0 lead, the steelheads came back with 2 power play goals in the 3rd period but we stood strong to get the regulation win and the 2 points.
We had Thursday morning practice and then the rest of the day off to spend in
Boise
. Some of the boys put together a ping pong tournament at the Holiday Inn pool and games area. Oren Eizenman was the eventual champion embarrassing Josh Ciocco in the finals 21-7. We also figured out that day who was on the Fresno Falcons “all dumb” team. Mr. Self and Mr. Ciocco were the co winners and seemed to get the majority of the votes. The Falcons ended up taking the next 2 games in
Boise
4-3 in regulation and 4-3 in a shootout making it a great road trip. Grabbing all 6 points and improving our overall record to 11-6-3-0 and a 5 game winning streak. Alright Falcons fans, that’s it for my first ever players blog. Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all enjoyed it and until next time, stay classy
Fresno
.

Kenny MacAulay Blog 2007-2008
11/28/2007 8:10 AM - Fresno Falcons
Welcome Falcon nation this is your first installment of the Falcon player blog brought to you by Kenny Macaulay or Dougie as I have been recently named. The renaming was a must as we have two Kenny's and things get a little confusing when the coaches are barking orders.
I am a little nervous getting the nod to be the lead off man for the blogging season. Just like being a first year pro this is also my first time blogging so please be patient as I try to navigate my way through this uncharted territory.
Being one of 13 rookies on the roster there has been an adjustment period for all of us. For the guys coming out of college, like myself we are used to playing between 30 and 40 games a season so the busy schedule has been something to get used to. There are lots of characters on this team but we have come together quickly and are a very tight knit group which is a credit to the coaching staff for bringing in the right personel. The on ice chemistry has parlayed to off ice activities and as of early November upon the release of Rock Band for PS3 we have a band called The Dockers comprised of certain team members. Mike Self leads the way on vocals, Oren Eizenman on the drums, Matt Quinn plays the guitar with Kenny Bernard rounding out the band on the bass guitar. We are all rooting for them as they continue to work their way up to expert status.
We are now 14 games into the season and we have had our share of ups and downs. As of today our record is 6-5-3 which is good for a tie for 2nd in the pacific division. We have already ventured out to Alaska and although we played 7 periods of good hockey out of 9 we only had one point to show for our efforts. It was hard to take but we have to learn as we go and that week end was proof that we need to play a full 60 minutes if we want to win.
This week end we face off against the Bakersfield Condors in a three games in three days series. You can count on the fact that this will be a great, entertaining week end of hockey. Although I have only played here a short while you get a good feel for the heated rivalry between Fresno and Bakersfield. You can bet this rivalry will surface this week end.
Thanks to all you falcons fans for stopping by. On behalf of the players and staff thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at the Savemart Center this week end as we battle the Bakersfield Condors.

What’s up home didleys?
Hello Falcon nation. After the blog took a major league sabbatical,it is back for the time being.Tito and Mouge have been threatening me with an entire days day, literally dozens of dollars from my pocket. Therefore,it has to be done. The forbidden fruit must be tasted and the blog…Falcon nation… is alive. I’m going to pump this thing with about 30,000 gallons of water and see how that goes.Is that what it’s gonna take to teach these guys a bit of a listen?I think it is!
Right now, the dirty birds are in the midst of a 11-3-2 stretch over our last 16 games which is nice. High five! I heard some rumblings and a couple panic buttons got pushed after a 3 game slide two weekends ago, but we were in all 3 of those games. The bounces just didn’t go our way on the defensive end and offensively, we didn’t bury our chances. This last weekend against Stockton,I think the Falcon nation and the rest of the league saw our resolve when we scored 4 unanswered goals, including 3 in the final 10 minutes to complete an unreal comeback on the our opponent’s ice. We carried the momentum over to Saturday and Stirls recorded our first shutout of the year. We’re not going to blow many teams out this year, but I like our squad’s chances every night we take the ice.
On the way home from Long Beach, we watched the movie "Super Troopers." For those of you who haven’t seen it, get on it immediately. Little did I know before the movie, but Officer Rodney Farva, A.K.A. Riley Day, has actually been suiting up for the dirty birds since mid December. Fresh off a suspension, something about a school bus full of kids, Rodney is starting to play like a seasoned vet. He’s not afraid to get involved in some shenanigans with his roomy and d partner, Tom Walsh A.K.A. Arkat Ramithorn.
With Walshy as Ramithorn, "Ram" and Day as Rodney, "Rod," They have formed the unstoppable duo as "Car Ramrod." They will be sporting moustaches in tonight’s game like their characters in SuperTroopers.
On a final note, completely un-hockey related. What is the deal with the "door open" and door close buttons on elevators. They never work anywhere, on any elevator I’ve ever been on, in any city in the world. What is the point? Someone please let me know if you have an opinion at mthomas@fresnofalcons.com
Peace out Falcon Nation and remember, you can’t soar with Falcons if you’re a dead rat on the side of the road. Lock it up, championship.

A Short Note from Long Arms
When you think of John Wroblewski, what thoughts spring to mind? Hard-working? Talented? A good teammate? How about devilishly handsome? What springs to my mind is that he is the worst kind of procrastinator. He was supposed to write this blog, but since he delayed, I have to do it. And that is why John Wroblewski will not be mentioned again in this segment.
It’s probably for the best, after all I know you guys have been checking the website hourly for news on me. The rumors of my close ties to Arnold Schwarzenegger and, subsequently, my leaving the Falcons to help him create a health plan for all Californians, are simply not true. I made it clear to the Governor that I would say no more. Also, I can’t see the future, but I anticipate being asked "How is your shoulder doing?" about 3x10^14 times (that’s scientific notation) in the coming weeks. Let me use this blog to eliminate the first 4 seconds of my next conversation with you. "It’s fine, it’s healing pretty quickly but it’s still ‘weak’, if you can even associate that word with me." Truly, though, I appreciate everyone’s concern, and it never bothers me to let people know how I’m doing.
I would rather not write about what I’ve been up to the past few weeks, but I haven’t seen the guys play so it’s hard to give my update. I do know that they are 11-3-2 since my shoulder surgery. If things get desperate and we start losing, I’m thinking of going back in and getting my knee scoped. I figure a knee is worth about 8 wins easy.
Meanwhile, I haven’t been up to much. It’s hard to describe to people that my job "is to rest right now." People assume that you are lucky or lazy or both, but ask any player who is out with a long term injury and he tells you there are few things worse in this job than watching everyone else on the ice. Try being a coach, I’ll bet you won’t blame Matt Thomas for having a conniption on the bench. It’s frustrating, and getting paid doesn’t diminish that at all. But, it’s part of the job. For me, missing games is something I’ve never had to deal with. So, we’re all learning around here, and I think that the team has been coming together well because of it. The division is very tight this year and I think that the players’ confidence will pay off when the playoffs roll around.
A quick note to the good souls out there: If you see Tom Walsh walking around put your arm around his shoulder and tell him it’s gonna be "OK." He was over at my apartment on Sunday and reacted strangely to the Patriots loss to the Colts. I was genuinely worried and expressed as much after he left our apartment mumbling something about the Red Sox in ’07. Just a few kind words will do, but you have to catch him. He hops around pretty fast.
That’s all I’ve got for now. If you’re coming to a home game soon, please say hi to me in the stands. And see if you can bring a couple of people who have never been to a Falcons game. If you liked this blog, bring three people. I’ll get back in and write again when I have more time. Stay well. -Vince
Victoria Road Trip
11/15/2006 9:30 AM - Tyler Kindle
Hey there Falcons’ fans. It’s Tyler Kindle filling in this week for Matt O’Dette on the player’s blog. This was the week of planes, trains, and automobiles as the team traveled to beautiful British Colombia for three games against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
The trip started Wednesday morning with a bus trip to San Francisco. There is a lot of pretty scenery that direction, but most of us saw only the backs of our eyelids. Six a.m. is an early morning, even for the veteran guys.
After the bus trip it was an uneventful flight into Vancouver International. That’s when the fun began. Most everyone whizzed right through customs with the exception of one Tomas Fojtik. For some reason the Canadians seemed to still have some sort of beef with the Czech Republic. I’m not sure if this stems from the Czech’s former ties to the USSR, or they are just still bitter over the ’98 Olympics. In any event, Fojo made it through, but we were now running late to make the ferry to Vancouver Island.
This is when the trip truly went out of control. The bus driver was certain we could make the ferry if traffic was favorable, which it wasn’t. But that did not deter Bussy. He made new lanes, and his own lanes, and all sorts of lanes. It was like the reincarnation of the late, great Dale Earnhardt. I was intimidated any way.
We made it to Vic (Victoria) and played Thursday, did some sight seeing Friday, played Saturday, and played Sunday. We only managed to win one game out of the three, so it was a disappointing trip from that respect.
Monday was the trip home back to Fresno. If the trip there seemed like a hassle, the trip home trumped it big time. All I’m willing to say is thirteen hours in, we made it to Seattle, which is all of 45 miles from Victoria. If I could walk on water, I would have been there faster.
Well, that’s it folks, my blog debut. I hope you enjoyed it, and see you at the Save Mart Center.
Another Installment of the Falcon Player Blog
11/01/2006 3:35 PM - Matt O'Dette
Welcome Falcon Nation to another installment of the Falcon player blog.
We're doing it "bloggy style". This is Odie here for your blogging pleasure.
Well 5 Games are in the books and we are off to a good start 4-1. The opening weekend posed a tough test for us with vegas coming to town. Last season we were 0-6 against them so we knew we owed them a few losses. With the exception of about 5 minutes in the second game we played pretty well. We would have liked to win those games in regulation but since it was opening weekend we thought we would make it exciting for the fans. Mac played well in his first pro start and should of had the shutout if not for the 5 minute lapse we had in the third. No worries though, i have a feeling that shutout will come very soon. Speaking of goalies. How good are ours? PFG i would say. I don't think we will be seeing 14 shootout losses this year.
Talking about Mac got me thinking about an interesting problem we have on the team this year. We have too many Macs and too many Johns. We have a Ryan Macdonald, a Vince Macri, a Brian McConnell, a John Macken, and a Rob McFeeters. As for Johns we have a John Wroblewski, a John Morlang, a John Macken, a Jonathan Trembley and a Jean Francois Plourde. Throw in a John Tull and that's a six pack of Johns. So the problem is that we have all these Macs and Johns and not enough original nicknames for them. If i were too call out "mac or John" i would have half of the team looking back at me.
Tito and Moug are a having an interesting time with it as well. If they were to say "Mac your up next" there would be some serious problems. Can you say too many men on the ice penalty. As for the nicknames, we are starting to get some covered. McConnell is now "sugar" courtesy of Vince Macri. Why sugar you ask? No reason, completely random and plus it's cool. Wrobo is Wrobo. Tremblay is "J Tizzle" or just "Tizzle". McFeeters is "Bob" or "Bobby" and J.F is "Gord" because he is the biggest Gord to ever come out of Quebec. So that leaves us with Macdonald, Macri, Macken and Morlang in need of something new and cool that will stick. The hardest part of a good nickname is to make it stick. "Sugar" is here to stay. Anyways if anyone has any suggestions feel free. Stay tuned for updates on the nickname front.....
Hmmmm, what else is new? Oh Ya we had our first road trip this past weekend. For some strange reason the boys were pumped about the first road trip of the year. Ten hours on the bus isn't exactly fun. We were like peewees going on our first overnight trip to a weekend tournament. Maybe it was because we could get away from our wives and girlfriends for a couple days j/k. Did i say that out loud? The trip down went well and we were well fed thanks to the booster club. Thanks again for all that great food. I don't think we stopped eating the whole time. One thing about the first road trip is that you get to see who the good card players are. The games of the trip were poker and euchre. With euchre we saw the emergence of perhaps the greatest euchre tandom every seen. Possibly the most dominant euchre pair in pro hockey history (if not the oldest). Together, 20 years of pro hockey, thousands of hours on the bus joining forces to display some of the finest euchre even Hoyle himself would be proud of. Big Poppa Murphy and myself. The Wayne and Mario of euchre if you will. After an opening game loss to the young upstart degenerate pairing of Wrobo and Goofer we rhymed off a staggering 11 game winning streak including 7 (yes 7) straight over the purple cobras. Murph was playing some beautiful euchre. It was like watching Murph circa 1997. Pairings of Sugar and Walshy and Sugar and TK were an embarassment to the game itself. Also for those of you who know Wrobo, you know that he can get a tad irritating when he is losing. So irritating that his actions earned him the nickname "euchre brat" after Phil Helmuth and his "poker brat" behavior.
As for the on ice part of the trip we played great 2 out of the 3 games. Fridays game was a total team effort with every guy contributing, playing our system to a tee. Saturdays game we played decent but nowhere near what we are capable of and it showed in the result. I think we fell in love with ourselves after Friday nights game. Running into a hot goaltender doesn't help. Sundays game was another great effort resulting in another dominant performance. If we continue to play like we did Fri and Sun we will be very tough to beat.
Anyways that's all i got, short and sweet, thanks for dropping by!
Thoughts from the back of the bus...... Wolf Pack over Purple Cobras EVERY time
No Sugar i'm pretty sure you CAN'T do that
and last but not least.... "That a boy Jean" Curtzky you are a real beauty
P.S.........BEWARE OF GORD SIGHTINGS!!!!!

A Week of Camp is in the Books
10/16/2006 2:00 PM - Matt O'Dette
Hello out there to the Falcon Nation. This is Matt O'Dette bringing you the first ever Fresno Falcon player blog. Every week a Falcon player will put in his two cents about the week that passed giving Falcon fans an inside look about what’s going on behind the scenes. So check in weekly to hear the day to day insights from a player’s perspective.
Hmmmm....well I’m sitting here in front of the computer with the monumental task of writing the first ever player blog. The pressure is on. It feels kinda like game 7 in Alaska. For those people out there who know hockey players, they would know that writing isn't one of their strong suits. Well i take it back , after reading the "ask the coaches" portion ot the forum, Tito and Moug can come up with some pretty creative literature. It's actually quite suprising seeing that I was in moug's english class back in the day. I think we spent more time playing euchre in the cafeteria then actually going to class. I guess that would explain moug's horrific spelling. Thank God for spellcheck eh moug. Remember wrobo's full name is spelt w-r-o-b-l-e.....ok nevermind. Anyways, i'll do my best for you guys but don't expect any helmethead like masterpieces.
Man this feels like school. It feels like I’m doing a project on the agriculture of alberta that i had 2 months to do and waited until the night before to pull and all nighter. Oh well here goes.......
It's Monday and a week of camp is in the books. It feels good to get back at it after a long summer of thinking what could have been. The boys are back and recharged for another run at the cup. Tito and Moug have done a great job of bringing back the right players from last year and adding some great new ones. It’s been a tough week of camp with the coaches putting the boys through their paces. Our days have consisted of two on ice sessions, a workout at velocity, mixed in with meetings and video sessions about game plans and systems. Our days run from about 8am until 7pm with a nice team meal to end the day. It’s important in the first couple weeks of the season for the guys to spend some quality time together to gel and create chemistry. That a major part of Tito and Moug’s team philosophy. Close teams win championships.
Anyways falcon nation, I should get going, I feel carpal tunnel syndrome setting in, I don’t want to mess up my goal scoring hands (lol).
P.S for those of you worried about the results of the exhibition games don’t be, we are working hard to get the out the kinks and will be running on all cylinders with our full lineup come Friday night. Believe me when I say that this is OUR year.
Thanks to all you falcons fans stopping by. The BEST fans in the ECHL hands down. On behalf of all of the players thank you for all of your continued support and we look forward bringing you a very exciting and special season.
As Gord would say GET R DONE,
